“Decade
of Machines” is the long-awaited best-of release by UK electro/industrial
mainstays, Inertia. Inertia is one of those bands I’ve heard
for years on compilations and internet radio shows, and I’ve
always liked their stuff; however, I’ve never picked up any
of their CDs. Why? Who knows?
I
pick up so many CDs that some bands slip through the cracks, I guess.
Anyway, “Decade of Machines” is an excellent place to
start if you’re like me in this way. After hearing this release,
you can be assured that I will right this wrong. ‘Best-of’
albums have always been interesting to me. It’s cool to hear
how a band has grown and progressed over the years.
Disc 1 of “Decade of Machines” throws you for a bit
of loop, though. Other CDs of this kind are almost always put in
chronologic order, but the first disc of this album is not. The
cool thing about this is that you can pick out the newer material
fairly easily (and this is a compliment to the musical growth of
Inertia). You’ll know what I mean when you hear the CD. I
do have to say that the one song on this collection that really
sticks in my head is “Angel”, if for no other reason
other than the fact that I have loved the song since I first heard
it. Definitely a killer track to kick off “Decade of Machines”!
Overall, the collection has a ton of variety, from hard-edged industrial
to more club friendly electro tracks. This is an excellent collection
of Inertia material. “Decade of Machines” is one of
the better ‘best-of’ albums I’ve heard. It never
bogs down or becomes boring. An excellent release! |
